Sensei Michael Rosati – SWAT Team Leader
Michael Rosati is a Shurin ryu karate instructor, an expert in the long staff (bo) and a New York City police officer and SWAT team leader. I first "met" Sensei Rosati over the phone; actually it was his answering machine that first impressed me. I was visiting the USA and a friend, one of his students, advised me to call him. Sensei Rosati teaching in Maaleh Adumim, Israel "I enjoyed training with you and your students. So much spirit!!! "It was over the Thanksgiving Day weekend when I called his dojo. The dojo was closed due to the holiday but his message impressed me. His message wished everyone a happy thanksgiving but encouraged them not to overdue it, and not to overeat. And, most importantly, to spend some time training in karate over the break. This was a man after my own heart. When we finally did speak it was a wonderful, inspirational, conversation. He offered expert advice on teaching, which I still follow today. He also gave me the ultimate compliment in calling me a "martial arts dinosaur", meaning one who still has the old values and work ethic. I finally met him when he came to Israel to conduct seminars. We had the honor of hosting him here at our Mountain Spirit Warrior dojo in Maaleh Adumim. We loved his style of teaching, his stories, his street applications and his martial values. He made a lasting impression on the students. Sensei Rosati also came to observe one of my sessions with the elite security guards in Jerusalem. After years of being a full time Shurin ryu karate instructor he has joined the police force and is a SWAT team leader. He continues to teach in New York. His sons have followed in his path and they too are martial artists and soldiers.
