Commitment to Success

Starting something new is fantastic. It is exciting, energizing, motivating and empowering. But with time the enthusiasm may dim a little, the flames may subside but we must be careful to stick to our path and not only be guided by fleeting passions, which ebb and flow. Without commitment we are as shaky as a Fiddler on the Roof!

Passion is rather fickle. Commitment to the goal is what matters.

A man asks the rabbi, Rabbi, I know I should pray every day but sometimes I am just not in the mood, I just don't feel it. What shall I do?

The rabbi answered, pray even if you do not feel it, and eventually you will feel it.

I am studying various battles of World War Two. Some began with great fanfare and early successes but soon bogged down to crawling towards the goal under heavy enemy fire. Victory came due to the commitment of the troops and the command. Victory comes from sticking to your goal.

One of the keys to success is remember why you originally joined a program. Why did you start this course? Because you wanted to learn some Italian for your upcoming romantic vacation in Italy. Why did you begin your Krav Maga course? Because you saw your neighbor butchered to death in front of her children and you vowed that this would never happen to you.  But then, the fire went out, so..whatever.

Just today I received the following message from one of my students, informing me that she will be not be renewing her membership.

Sorry to disappoint, but my commitment to my Krav training bit the dust a while ago.  Keep savin' the world Moshe

Well, yes, I will continue, as long as I can, to try and save the world, one person at a time. We do it with our local classes, we do it with our Tour and Train program in Israel, we do it with our seminars and classes abroad, and we do it with our On Line Krav Maga program and our DVDs. And with these blogs I try to spread the word and raise awareness: We cannot give up the fight, there is too much at stake.

Imagine World War Two. The troops come home, Guys, sorry to disappoint but....our commitment bit the dust, best of luck on your own

I admire this student for her brutal honesty; no excuses, no blaming other outside factors, just the plain honest brutal truth. And that is exactly how I teach Krav Maga, just the truth folks, the whole truth, nothing but the truth, so help us God.
