Solomon the Wise wrote, "There is nothing new under the sun". And while it seems that everyday our technological gadgets are upgraded, the truth remains that the basic human condition has in fact, not changed.
Human nature is the same. Reading the Bible, the words of the prophets and the words of the ancient rabbis I find that every issue I face, every issue I must deal with, has already been dealt with before.
Indeed, human behavior has not changed. And yet, we must try and learn from the past, for alas, otherwise we are destined to repeat our mistakes.
If we wish to succeed in life we must learn from life, before it is too late. We must learn to preempt certain predictable problems. There is a way to learn from our mistakes and the mistakes of others. And that is what IKI Krav Maga is all about.
I am here to save you a lot of trouble and a lot of heartache, if you allow me to guide you.
Safety and awareness, we take this very seriously here.
The Talmud: Tractate Pesahim, page 49B, Rabbi Eliezer said: One should not travel in the company of those ignorant of the Bible (people of the land, Am HaAretz) for it is written 'For it (the Torah) is your life and the length of your days.' Deuteronomy . If this ignorant individual does not value his life enough to study the Bible, the Torah, the book which will guide his life and protect him, clearly he does not value life, thus he is to be feared lest he take your life."
What is being said here? The Talmud is equating the study of the Torah/Bible to a life saving measure. If someone has not taken the basic precautionary measures to protect his life, it is a clear sign that he does not properly value his life. He is recklessly endangering his life.
If you see a friend who is a daredevil, he likes doing crazy things, running in the middle of the street challenging cars, running across train tracks etc, what does this tell you?
It tells you he does not value his life. So what makes you think he values your life? What makes you think he will care about your life?
He will not. A friend like this is trouble. Would you want your child hanging out with such a person? Would you feel safe letting your child go out to town with such an irresponsible person?
Of course not.
One who does not value life is not a good travel companion.
We are living in difficult times. As I grew up I felt the world was becoming a better place, a safer and kinder place. But it turned out to be an illusion, while there are always sparks of humanity all over the world I am sad to report that the extreme passionate hatred that we saw in the past has returned
Like a disease we thought we had eradicated has suddenly returned. My friends, nothing has changed, nothing.
So if you do not protect your home, you do not train in Krav Maga self-defense, you do not take the basic precautionary measures to protect your life and property, what kind of a person are you?
You are a person who does not respect and value their own life, either that or you are a fool, a damn fool.
What will it take?
How many break-ins will it take before we realize it has been too many?
How many people must be raped, stabbed, killed, shot before we realize we must train in Krav Maga?
And Rabbi Eliezer, nearly 2,000 years ago, warned us, don't hang out with such people. Listen to the rabbi.
