Plan it or Wing it?

Driving along the highway I see a sign. I love advertisements, they always have great ideas and clever slogans. Sadly for them I never remember what the advertisement was for. I like words. I like language and the play on words. I never remember what the product was and I never purchase anything I do not need. Like our style of Krav Maga I stick to the basic, I am a minimalist.

The sign, perhaps it was for an insurance company, read "Winging it is not an emergency plan"

Yet for many it is.

Even martial arts black belts and instructors have no plan. They teach knife disarms, a total illusion, as a solution to a knife attack. They teach run and hide, they assume someone else, the police, or some good Samaritan, will come along to solve the problem.

They are wrong. They are basically just counting on winging it, i.e. figuring it out as they go along.

This is not a life plan.

I never wing it. When I get on the plan to leave Israel I have every step of the trip worked out. I want every flight booked, every hotel booked, every seminar arranged.

Schools plan for fires with regular fire drills. Every home should have a plan for the event of a terrorist or criminal attack. Do not count on Winging it.

Luck favors the prepared. We must plan for the worst. We must have a "negative way" of thinking, i.e. anticipate the worst case scenario and plan for it. Never assume "it will all work out", always have a plan, and backup plan.

No one plans on getting sick, but it happens, a lot. So what if our plan is...hope for the best and if something happens...we will figure it out. i.e. wing it.

Guess what? that is how people end up homeless. That is how people lose everything. And yet is the same with self defense. We all think "It will never happen to me" but it does. It happens to a lot of people. You need to have a plan and that plan needs to include self defense, Krav Maga, using your hands and taking care of yourself.

That of course is only part of the plan, there must be other parts: health care, financial planning, home security, car security. But Krav Maga is part of the plan.

It is time we opened out eyes, stopped all this Positive thinking and got into some realistic thinking, work for the best, plan for the worst.

Make a plan Stan, and make sure it includes Krav Maga training.

Krav Maga Tour and Train Israel Experience. These people are making a plan to protect themselves. How about you?

The fastest way to progress is two weeks of intensive Krav Maga training in Israel; our Tour and Train program, innovative, often imitated but never matched.
