People Don't Want Money

There are people who like money, I am one of them. We like collecting bills and coins from around the world. When I was young this was a common hobby, everyone collected stamps and coins. Today this hobby has largely disappeared. I still collect coins and when I am in the USA, I am always on the lookout for the latest Washington quarters, state quarters, national park quarters etc. I love seeing the new designs, the changes. I also love holding an Indian Head Penny from 1901 and imagine the people who used this coin to buy some bread over a hundred years ago.

But most people take little interest in money, but wait! Everyone wants money, that is why people work, people cheat, people steal, people committed robbery and fraud, everyone wants money!

No, they do not. Actually, all they really want is what money can buy.

People do not want money, they want security.

Money is useless, other than for what it can buy, and the first thing most normal people want is security. There are of course drug addicts who are out of control. The first thing they will purchase are drugs. Similarly, there are those who will focus on other addictions; gambling, clothing, useless luxury items. But for most normal people the first thing they will purchase is security.

The first thing most people will purchase is food, then clothing, and then shelter. After this they will put money in gold or find another way to have security for the future, food for times of famine, money for the proverbial rainy day. In a word, people do not want money, they want security. They want financial security, but they also want physical security. So they will build strong homes, walls, fortresses and watch towers. They will hire guards.

In summary, people do not care for money, they want security.

And now we must ask: If security is the bottom line, the goal, the objective, why are people so reluctant to spend money on self-defense training? Why are they not signing up in droves for Krav Maga classes?

Why? The answer eludes me. Perhaps they are willing to pay for someone else to protect them but are unwilling to actually go to class themselves. What is your money worth if you live a life of insecurity, fearing both physical violence and often your own shadow. What is it worth to you to train, to learn to stand up for yourself in life!!!

Krav Maga is not only about physical self-defense, it is about not being bullied at school or at work, or on the street. It is about developing some spine, some self-respect. Is there a price you put on self-respect?
