Krav Maga Black Belt Course

Daily I receive emails and messages from all over the world, I receive a range of questions covering a wide variety of topics relating to Krav Maga, self-defense, and even religion. I do my best to answer each one, even if they are not members or potential members of IKI. (for our IKI membership and training program please see below). There are those who genuinely want to learn to defend themselves, and there are those who simply want a certificate, a diploma. Some want this diploma for the personal bragging collection, and some want it for a career advancement.
There are those for whom a Krav Maga diploma is important for their credentials, and there are those who actually want to teach Krav Maga. The teachers may already have some knowledge and training gleaned from other sources; the internet, free YouTube videos, free Facebook promotions, or some previous training in different Krav Maga organizations that do not meet our standards.
I wish to respond here to a request/inquiry I received recently. Names and country of origin withheld. May I purchase the Black Belt course, or the Instructor Course, or must I also go through the ranks Yellow through Brown?
I would like to address here for all.
We do not offer any "Black Belt" course, and if you do find such an offer, or an "Instructor Course", beware, please be advised that it is a scam. It is a money-making trick, it is not legitimate martial arts, it is not legitimate training. Beware any such courses. I will explain why.
You can take a course to become an English teacher, I did, but first, and this may come as a surprise, you must know the English language. You must an English speaker. If you do not know Krav Maga how can you sign up for an instructor's course or a black belt course? It is a scam.
How can I learn Advanced Mathematics if I have not first learned Basic Mathematics? How can I build the 5th floor to a house without first building a foundation, a first floor, second floor. etc? It is impossible. It is a scam.
With IKI Krav Maga there is no "Black Belt course", there is just training. You train, you learn, you advance in your self-defense skills. If you want you test for ranks; Yellow Belt, Orange Belt, Green Belt, Blue Belt, Brown Belt and then finally Black Belt. When you are ready you can test for instructor ranks. But I do not understand the concept of "Black Belt course", Black Belt assumes all the previous levels. And if it were possible to take a so-called Black Belt course, or instructor course, why would anyone bother with starting at White Belt and learning the basics? Just skip to the final exam!
When I began my martial arts training, I signed up, entered the dojo, and joined the class. I trained, that was it. Eventually the instructor decided I was ready for a belt, and of course it was the first belt, the lowest rank. That is how martial arts works. You do not sign up for a particular belt.
To me it smells of a scam. Sign a contract, pay money up front and you are guaranteed a black belt. I have met such people, most regretted it, felt ashamed, and would not dare refer to themselves as black belts. I recall a woman I met at one of my seminars in Perth, Australia, many years ago, not from our system. I asked her for her rank, she dodged the question. Finally, she said she was ashamed to tell me, and finally she admitted, "I hold the rank of black belt". I said, Wow, Black Belt, why would you be ashamed of that?
She answered,"I signed a one-year black belt contract. I paid upfront. I received my black belt after one year, as per the contract but then after attending your seminar I realized that I just purchased a piece of paper. I do not deserve any rank."
A black belt course, what on earth does that mean? to me it means only one thing, stay away, it is not legitimate training. A fool and his money are quickly separated.
