Lack of Unity, Lack of Progress

I recall as a child the following lesson about the rude habit of talking in class. As a teacher I now understand how disruptive it is when people are talking during a lesson, it is all we can hear, that buzz from two people who think their little conversation is not disrupting the lesson or seminar. It makes it difficult to focus; it is simply rude.

As a child it went like this, 'Johnny, why are you talking to Billy during class." "Because I have something important to tell Billy",
Teacher: Well, why can't it wait until recess?', Johnny: Because it is very important, it cannot wait.'
Teacher: If it is that important, why don't you share it with the entire class?'

Now the analogy is not perfect, could be that it was an important personal message and not one that was important for everyone to know, but the point is clear; if something is so important that it cannot wait, please share it with all of us, please enlighten all of us. And now to Krav Maga.

Our IKI techniques are the product of a very long process of research and development. They have been tested, and they are constantly being tested and reevaluated, all over the world. Now sometimes I will discover that an instructor has "improved" on a technique, in his own mind, and is teaching it differently than I am, and he is not in sync with other IKI Krav Maga schools around the world. This creates a great deal of confusion for students. Why is our local instructor teaching something different than the head instructor? What is going on over here?!

Now here is my point; let's say for a moment that a local instructor, certified by IKI, finds what he considers a better solution to a problem, perhaps an improved technique over what I am teaching, Why Not Share it with the Rest of Us?!!

If the improvement is so good, why are you keeping it to yourself and your school?

and if you truly believe this is an improvement, why are you afraid to have it analyzed and questioned by the head instructor and our team of Israeli black belts?

We have two outstanding students in New York, who train for the pure purpose of self-defense, for a community that is a target for violence. They are highly intelligent Talmudic scholars, and they send me video questions on a regular basis. i.e. they don't change the technique on their own. They have legitimate questions and they are humble enough to ask me, to run it by me.  Sometimes I will spot something that they had not noticed, and sometimes they are right on the mark. But in any event, this "Back and Forth", which is a Talmudic tradition, this process of Questions and Answers, leads to improved techniques, improved explanations and improved understanding. This is a process of growth. It also ensures unity among our schools.

Unity is important. If you have a student in South Africa who decides to attend an IKI seminar in Germany, and he discovers that the techniques are different, this will cause him to "lose faith" in the system. It is no longer a "System", it is a bunch of instructors with a hodge podge of random techniques. Each man does that which is right in his eyes = Chaos!

Our Goal is to save lives; our goal is to give you the best Survival Self-Defense system in the world. We can do this if we have unity, if we work together, if we share knowledge and experiences. IKI Krav Maga is Cutting Edge Self-Defense Survival skills.
