Priority Boarding

I am sitting and waiting for my flight to board. The airport is not so busy today, and the flight to Israel appears to be less than half full. Therefore, the Priority Boarding does not matter that much.

I have worked very hard over a period of many years, decades, to earn the status of "Priority" customer with two airlines. I have remained loyal to these two airlines for more than 20 years. I have trained in martial arts for a lifetime, earned by belts, paid my dues, became a local instructor and then an international instructor. For years I flew in the lowest cost seats, the worst routes, the worst hours. But gradually, from hard work and commitment, I earned the status, silver, Gold, and then Platinum. It means a lot to me because it was not easy. I paid my dues. and now it means a lot to me that I no longer have to wait in the long slow line. I am honest, it feels good to be a priority customer. 

But I am troubled by these signs that I see, for several airlines, it says Priority and non-Priority, I do not like this. I would prefer to see, General Boarding, and Priority, or, Passengers and Priority, some non-negative term, but non-priority I do not like. I believe that no one should be "non-priority", I would certainly not like to be referred to as a non-priority person. Every person is a priority, every person is important, every person has value. Yes, someone who has worked hard, someone who has paid more, someone who is willing to spend more money to wait less on line, to board first, perhaps an older person, yes, they do deserve to be priority, but I do not think anyone should be referred to as "Non-Priority.

Our approach at IKI Krav Maga is that each and every student, each and every member, is a priority. Each person is an individual, each person has his needs. Each person has a right to learn to defend himself. I would never refer to anyone as "non-priority". 

I recall a rabbi, no longer among the living, he was asked, how can you refer to each person you meet as your "favorite person"? and he responded, "at the moment, my focus is entirely on that person, and he is indeed the most important in my life at that very moment. And thus, each person can be my favorite person.

These words of wisdom changed my life.

Each and every one of us is a priority.
