Slumber

"The guardian of Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep" (Psalms, Chapter 121, verse 4) The meaning of this is to emphasize God's constant vigilance and guardianship over his people Israel. God does not take naps, God does not take a coffee break, God is always on guard.
God neither slumbers nor sleeps
but we do.
There was a myth about Israel, we are tough on terrorists, we are vigilant and aware of everything the enemy is planning. But the government, the intelligence services, fell asleep at the guard post. Foreign Liberal ideas infiltrated those who were meant to be our guardians. The army stopped fighting for victory and instead were led, or mislead, by generals who wanted peace too badly, they wanted to be loved by the world. Instead of following our heritage, "behold a nation that dwells alone and among the nations is not counted, is not recognized" (Book of Numbers, Chapter 23, verse 9) we sought approval, love, recognition, our influencers were "looking for love in all the wrong places."
Hezbollah in the north were digging tunnels deeper than anyone had ever imagined. We heard the drilling but did not want to "make a fuss" as the people in Tel Aviv would protest that the "crazy right-wing government was dragging us into a war that nobody wanted". So the government put their head in the sand and hoped the problem would magically disappear. Enormous stockpiles of weapons were later discovered along with detailed planes to infiltrate Israel.
Hamas in the south were digging tunnels, under our very feet, into the bedrooms of our children. but the "Intelligence" decided it was best not to inform the "crazy" Prime Minster, as they wanted peace. They feared he would "overreact". The official policy became "Quiet will be answered with Quiet". i.e. do not attack, and the enemy too will not attack.
Stupidity has no natural limits other than the eventual, inevitable, demise of the stupid organism.
Our guardians chose to go to sleep, but while they slept, the Arabs stayed up late, digging tunnels, training with weapons, studying strategy, observing our habits, watching our villages and our army bases, and planning their attack, and our guardians were willingly taking naps.
The warnings were there but the response was "Nah, they would not do anything like that". Our leaders were afraid of "provoking" the enemy. They did not understand the nature of the enemy. I do.
Why not believe that the Arabs intend to attack? That has been their stated goal all along, our total destruction and the destruction of the State of Israel. Why ignore and disrespect your enemy?
Blindness is a terrible disease, and senseless when it is self-inflicted.
People shouted Peace Now, but that is no different from a toddler shouting Chocolate Ice Cream NOW. There must be a responsible adult in the room. You cannot give in to the demands of a spoiled child. but our leaders did just that. And we all paid for it.
We all need to sleep, but someone must remain on guard, at ALL times! That is how our ancestors survived the early years when they were surrounded by predators. Somone stayed awake and managed the fire.
While we are taking a nap, someone else is training hard to kill us. Never Forget That!
While a boxing champion is drinking champagne and celebrating his victory there is a hungry kid in the ghetto pounding the bag and preparing to dethrone the champion and take his crown. While we are protecting the "rights" of murderers in prison, their comrades are mocking us and using our faces as shooting targets. They are preparing to kill us. Do NOT forget that.
You may believe that God is watching over you and not taking a nap, or perhaps you do not believe. But believe this, WE must not take long napes, we must not take breaks from our training, for someone else, unbeknown to you, is planning your death. Yes, it is true.
This applies to nations and it applies to individuals. And we it comes to individuals; we the individuals are responsible. Start training and never stop.
