IKI Krav Maga is not a collection of techniques. It is not a "Greatest Hits" collection of techniques from other martial arts. Years ago, it was, in fact that is exactly what it was and how I promoted, I recall writing, the best techniques from all over the world with a bit of Israeli aggression and flavor. But that is no longer the case and has not been for a very long time.
We have evolved into a unique system with a unique approach, some get this right away, some grasp it after time, and sadly, some never get this.
IKI Is not a collection of techniques, it is a concept. When you understand the concept, you understand how One Thread runs through everything we do, from gun defense to knife defense, to ground techniques, to preemptive striking techniques.
The other day I was training a lawyer, a very intelligent man, at first the idea did not make sense as it went against how he had been trained in other styles of Krav Maga, but once he saw it, his eyes light up, By George, I think you got it!
Then the training becomes so much easier.
There are people that have trained with IKI for years, they learn the techniques, they test on those techniques, but then I discover that despite knowing many IKI techniques, they still miss the point. They don't see the One Thread; they don't see that we are not a technique-based system but rather a concept-based system. In other words, they simply don't get it, they never got it. They are missing the beauty and uniqueness in the system.
That is why you can't change or modify techniques randomly. If you think, well Moshe goofed on this one, this one does not work. No, that is not the case, either the whole system is correct, or the whole system is false, or you just didn't get it yet.
Everything fits into a whole, everything follows the same concepts. You can't change one technique and break the concept. If you do that it indicates to me that you missed the entire point, you just didn't get it. Of course you can and should question techniques, if it does not work for you - ASK ME. I am always open to questions. I want questions that help clarify and even improve the techniques, or improve how I teach the technique. So questions are in fact an integral part of our system. I am happy to receive your questions.
As one of your students said a few years ago, it is all the same, but different. Yes, it is all the same, i.e. it is all ONE concept, but it is also different because it is adapted to each and every different situation.
When you train with us, I can show how this works. The lawyer saw it in his first private lesson. If you don't see it, come to a seminar and ask me to clarify this. Once you see it, you see the light and will not feel the need to look elsewhere for techniques. You will not feel the need to search Youtube or Facebook for the latest flashy techniques. (All of which are just rehashing the same old stuff anyway.) Once you see the One Thread, you will have all the tools you need, all within our unique system. You will not need to attend other seminars or constantly be searching for something else, the new flavor of the month. Once you find happiness, you stop having a "roving eye". You will not need outside validation.
