We Can Fix your Hair

Just to be clear this is not a blog about how to fix your hair. Many of our members are bald or balding, that is just the natural way of things, and we simply must accept that. As they say Hair today Gone tomorrow, but life goes on. On the other hand when it comes to self defense there is most definitely things we can do to help you.
We are driving down the road passing through downtown Johannesburg and I see a billboard advertisement, We cannot fix the world but we can fix your hair. This catches my attention. South Africa is going through a difficult economic crisis which I am doing my best to understand. The world is going through an economic crisis. There is not much we as individuals can do about this other than campaign for the candidates who are honestly trying to make a difference. In Johannesburg there is an excellent candidate named Helen Zille who is running on a campaign of social justice and fighting corruption. Now you cannot create social justice unless you improve the economy and you cannot improve the economy unless you fight the corruption that was created by the very people who claim to fight for social justice and equality. The point of advertisement is we can fix your hair; we can help you with some smaller issues, but we cannot fix the entire corrupt system. We cannot change the world so easily but we can help you.
Having nice hair will make you feel better; perhaps help you get a job or meet new friends. It will not stop your political leaders from stealing your money and destroying the infrastructure of society. We at IKI Krav Maga do not promise to fix your hair but we can help you survive an increasingly violent and brutal world. This is where we come into play, and it is not a game. There is more than hair involved.
We are on a never-ending quest to improve your chances of surviving the urban jungle, or the attacks on the local farms, whatever your particular situation may be. We are here to prevent your daughter from getting raped, or your wife held up at gunpoint in her own car and told to drive into a dangerous neighborhood. We are here to help you not get a gun stuck in your ribs as you enter the bank. All of these are real stories, not fiction. We live and learn. Our system is built on real cases, real violence, real people.
Daily I am hearing stories, about a female college student who had to bite the hand of a man who tried to pull her out of her car, about another young girl who had a gun pointed to her head in her own garage as she tried to enter her home, of a young man stopped at a traffic light by four men with AK-47s, about a young woman hacked with a machete, about...so many cases. We learn from these. We are constantly seeking the Best Defense.
We must all do what we can to improve the world. One will run for office, become Minister of Finance and try to fight corruption, another will organize a community self-help and assistance organization. And for me, I am devoted to an honest pursuit of the best defense for the average person, the Perfect system for imperfect people.
and now I must fix of my hair, I have an important meeting coming up.
