Training inside a cockpit, relevant training
I am in Weißwasser teaching a Krav Maga seminar. As always, I inquire as to which type of violence is most relevant to the local participants. I want to know what I should focus on in order to maximize the benefit for the seminar participants.
However, I feel that no aspect of violence should be ignored, even if it seems irrelevant at the moment.
In September 1970 there was an attempted hijacking of 4 airlines on one day. Only the El Al flight was not hijacked, for our people had been training for this. Too many people look at the current state of violence, the most recent attack, and train for that. But that is not wise.
I had students, years ago, coming from Europe and describing certain types of violence they said, no, that is not relevant for us. We do not want to waste our time training for that.
Those are not the words of the wise. The Wise see the unborn, and prepare for it.
There was a time when no one trained in counter-terrorism, there was a time when no one was training to combat hijackings, and then airplane hijackings became common, and everyone was training. And then things changed and this topic was dropped.
And then the attempted airplane hijacking of September 30th, 2026, happened, and now Airplane Hijackings are once again a topic.
But this is not the way to go about training. We do not "follow trends", we prepare in advance.
Let us look at the cycle of violence in Israel. We have knife attacks, and the police learn to deal with this. And then the terrorists find that this is no longer working, the people are too prepared, so they move on. Next, we have Active Shooters, and then we learn to deal with that. So the terrorists move on. Then we will have suicide bombers, we find a way to deal with that, and then they move on the car ramming's. We learn to deal with that by building cement blocks around bus stops to prevent terrorists from driving their cars into people waiting at the bus stop. So the terrorists realize this is no longer effective and then move on yet again to drive by shootings, so we plexiglass at all bus stops. and then what comes next? They are back to knife attacks. However, by now the public has become complacent about knife attacks and are no longer ready for them. And thus the cycles continues.
At IKI Krav Maga we study crime and violence from all over the world, from knife stabbings to the Gypsy Attack, to the Zulu Stitching Attack, to South African "Garden Fork Attack", no topic is ignored.
